The Association met June 13th, 2024 and welcomed speakers Kevin Foley and Daniel Calvert.
Kevin Foley is the Executive Director of the Des Moines International Airport. Kevin gave a very informative presentation around the updates currently underway at the Airport. Upon completion, the new terminal addition will operate 22 gates while the garage expansion will add 1100 much needed parking spaces.
Fun Fact – The current terminal at DSM was built in 1948 and will eventually be housing the airport administration offices only.
The Des Moines International Airport continues to see increases in passenger traffic. YTD through June, there has been a 4% increase in total passengers ( 1.495M in ’23 vs 1.556M in ’24 ).
Daniel Calvert, GLNA fan favorite, also joined to discuss a few “goings-ons” with Des Moines Parks and Recreation this summer.
Brenton Skating Plaza will have roller skating on August 2nd.
Gray’s Lake Playground and Spray-ground addition will have a budget of approximately $2.4M and will be largely funded via public donations. Donations can be made at: desmoinesfoundation.org/givedsm
And for those of you curious as to when the new MacRae Park signs will be completed – those are schedule to be up no later than July 31st.
