GLNA December 10 Meeting Minutes
ATTN: Next meeting Tuesday March 4, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.
Board Members Present: Chair Rhonda Ortale, Vice-Chair Gail Olson, Treasurer Robert Heitman, Secretary Kyle White, and At-Large Jessye Flannery.
Neighbor member present Tre Wilson.
The Board revised association’s bylaws and it passed by majority vote. An announcement was sent a few weeks prior to the December meeting that included the anticipated changes for paid members review.
Meetings and board member descriptive roles were the main changes. The
GLNA board will be four times annually one of which is classified as the “annual meeting.” The purpose of the annual meeting is to elect officers, collect dues, and address other business as necessary. Also, the GLNA neighborhood association is now considered a non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization. All donations to the association are tax deductible.
Speakers:
Southside Library Manager Alissa Cornick touched on library program highlights. Ebooks are only available to DSM residents. There is a program that allows residents to check out items such as radon detector or weed trimmers. Check out hot spots but the wait list is substantial.
Iowa Adventure pass is not available for 2025 but previously made reservations will be honored.
Obtaining a book via interlibrary loan is free and no charge for DVD rentals. The community fridge is available to anyone as there is no residency requirement.
Park and Recreation Planning Administrator Dan Calvert said the Grays Lake Marina’s rebuild will make it more accessible. Currently the Southwest Parking lot is closed through Spring 2026 to improve the marina and dock. Two million was donated to build a new play and spray ground.
He provided several copies of the Park and Recreation Fall/Winter 2024-2025 activities guide and if you want a copy, let me know.
For March, the Vice-President and Secretary position, as well as all at-large positions, will be open. Only paid members can vote to fill these positions. If you want to be elected for any of these positions, please attend and announce your intent to run.
Next meeting will be March 4 and our new location of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3820 SW 9 th St. at 6:30 p.m.
